Apple juice making :)

Some time ago we were invited, by our neighbour living on the same property, for juice making! He's been making it every single year since he was 18. So probably for over 30 years now! (although I am not entirely sure how old he is ;) ) The juice. It is made from apples picked from a few places where Sebastian works as a handyman and there are  sacks of them offered to him as the owners are not going to make any use of them. This way, every year at early fall, he starts his apple juice production in his hut, which is built in the furthest corner of 'our' garden. He lives there, in that hut. He built it himself many years ago out of recycled material and made it self-efficient energy-wise.  Now, to the point > about the juice: To start with - cleaning the bottles: Using branch shredder - apples are getting shredded to a pulp: then it's taken in a bucket to a tumble-drier (yep, the one for clothes) and part by part ...

More selfmade goodies, yumm :)

There you go, I decided I want those blinding beeswax wraps . What are they?  A natural alternative to plastic wrap/cling foil for food storage, so cloths/fabric covered with beeswax for their adherence and usability when wrapping food and keep it fresh. I also wanted to make them myself, thus I talked two friends into DIY 'workshop' at Gina's (one of them) house, we used the recipe you can find here (in PL): http://www.nanowosmieci.pl/diy-zamiast-folii-spozywczej or here (in EN): http://myhealthygreenfamily.com/blog/wordpress/plastic-wrap-alternative-diy-beeswax-cotton-wraps ... and that is how it came out :)  >>> grate the beeswax first..diligently ;) cutting the cloth which is to become a beeswax wrap soon having all the edges straighten up first... spreading the grated beeswax on top of the cloth, evenly ironing thru the baking paper placed on the cloth with the beeswax Gina making another one^^  And ...

Small steps towards mindfulness and zero-waste'ness :)

I haven't actually had in mind or intended to transparently disclose what we do every single minute ;) but I thought it might get useful even for us to have certain things summed up and brought together in such a place like this, accessible and handy. There are some principles we try to follow in our every day's life, hoping for them to bolster up and engrain for good. So a few things we are into: - being more mindful about the surrounding environment - making reasonable and aware choices - producing less waste - being productive in a way that what we do should rather enrich than exploit among a lot of other things, like a wish to become waste-free and sustainable, if not fully then to farthest extent possible. Anyways, lately we did a few new purchases, apart from making our desk from scrap. Bamboo toothbrushes with charcoal bristles: cool-looking and compostable! They are affordable and really do the job. I bought them here: https://savesome...

Desk DIY - putting together and finishing off!

So Jay works in a company - furniture producer and distributor. Therefore, he's got possibility for taking scraps, finishing them off at the spot and taking them back home, every now and then.  Now, he bought back 3 solid boards of oak's wood for building a desk that we were short of in our room. A week or so ago we glued parts together with a special adhesive for wood and cut the parts, so they fit in the room as desired Further work was done thereafter: sanding first veeeeery diligently then oiling the wood to preserve it well (I worked as well but it was only me taking pictures so..) and after the oil soaked in... we signed our masterpiece up.. ... so that they know who made it! :D multi-funcional furniture - a desk and a kennel in one :P Very rewarding, useful and well looking (don't you think?) and, above all, self made sturdy, solid desk! :)
